Two Arrests Following London Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
This incident caused the partial shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 car park.

An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a theft at Heathrow Airport where 21 people were injured by a substance believed to be pepper spray, as stated by police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area for suspected theft and assault and a woman, 23 was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. They both remain in custody, the force said.

These detentions come after a probe into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the attack, two women had stolen from them their suitcases after getting out of a car park lift.

A toddler aged three was among the those hurt in the event. Five people went to hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

Officers detained a man in his thirties on suspicion of theft and assault near the scene. He was subsequently released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Police were called at about 08:10 GMT following reports of a number of individuals injured by an irritating chemical believed to be an irritant spray.

The attack - which police said was a standalone incident and not being treated as terrorism - caused train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility for a short time.
